صادق هدایت (زادهٔ ۲۸ بهمن ۱۲۸۱ تهران - درگذشتهٔ ۱۹ فروردین ۱۳۳۰ پاریس) داستان‌نویس، مترجم و روشنفکر ایرانی بود. او را همراهِ محمدعلی جمال‌زاده و بزرگ علوی و صادق چوبک یکی
از پدران داستان‌نویسی نوین ایرانی می‌دانند.
هدایت از پیشگامان داستان‌نویسی نوین ایران و روشنفکری برجسته بود. بسیاری از پژوهشگران، رمانِ بوف کور او را مشهورترین و درخشان‌ترین اثر ادبیات داستانی معاصر ایران
دانسته‌اند. هرچند شهرت عام هدایت در نویسندگی است، امّا آثاری از نویسندگانی بزرگ مانندِ ژان پل سارتر و فرانتس کافکا و آنتون چخوف را نیز ترجمه کرده‌است. حجم آثار و مقالات
نوشته شده دربارهٔ نوشته‌ها، زندگی و خودکشی صادق هدایت بیان‌گر تأثیر ژرف او بر جریان روشنفکری ایران است.
شمار بسیاری از سخنوران ایرانی نسل‌های بعدی، از غلامحسین ساعدی و هوشنگ گلشیری و بهرام بیضایی تا رضا قاسمی و عباس معروفی و دیگران، هر یک به نوعی کمتر یا بیشتر تحت تأثیر کار
و زندگی هدایت واقع شده و درباره‌اش سخن گفته‌اند.
هدایت در ۱۹ فروردین سال ۱۳۳۰ در پاریس خودکشی کرد و چند روز بعد در قطعهٔ ۸۵ گورستان پرلاشز به خاک سپرده شد.

Hedayat was one of the pioneers of modern Iranian writing and intellectualism. Many scholars have described him as the most famous and brilliant work of contemporary
Iranian literature. Although the general fame of guidance is in writing, he has translated works of great writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Franz Kafka and Anton
Chekhov. The volume of works and articles written about writings, life and suicide Sadegh Hedayat expresses his profound influence on the intellectual flow of Iran.
Many Iranian speakers from later generations, from Gholam Hossein Sa'edi, Houshang Golshiri and Bahram Beyzaee to Reza Qasemi and Abbas Maroufi and others, have been
guided and spoken about in a way less or more influenced by work and life.
Hedayat suicide in Paris on April 19, 1330, and was buried in a piece of 85 Prilashes cemetery a few days later.
