Hamro Safety is a digital platform developed especially for marginalized women in Nepal to provide essential information related to their sexual and
reproductive health rights. Marginalized women often have limited access to sexual and reproductive health services because the large society views them from a different
lens. The stigma and discrimination they have to encounter because of their socio-economic status including, origin, caste, gender, occupation, education act as a barrier
for them to access necessary sexual and reproductive health services. As they are looked down upon by the society they are more often than not hesitant to visit hospitals
and health centers to discuss their health problems and receive essential health services. As they are highly stigmatized marginalized women particularly, women living with
HIV, female sex workers, female drug users and LGBTIQ live in silos because of which they lack awareness of their sexual and reproductive health rights. They fail to realize
that it falls under their fundamental human rights to have equal access to resources and lead a dignified, healthy life. This means they often neglect their crucial health
conditions putting their own lives in jeopardy. Hamro Safety app is designed to make crucial information regarding sexual and reproductive health rights more accessible to
these women so that they are empowered to exercise their rights and receive stigma free, quality health services.
Currently the mobile app provides information on safe abortion including mapping of the safe abortion service sites in five districts of Nepal. It puts necessary information
regarding safe abortion in their hands so that they are able to make their own decisions about their body and life in the right time. In the future, the app intends to
integrate other core components of the sexual and reproductive health rights to cater to the needs of these women.
