과거 심각한 바이러스가 퍼지고 지상은 위험구역으로 지정되게 된다. 비감염자들은 수도권을 중심으로 거대한 지하시설을 건설하게 되고 바이러스에 감염되지 않은 안전구역으로 선포하였다. 그곳에서 바이러스의 백신을 개발하여 외부에 공급하던 도중 물량부족으로 폭동이 일어나게 되고 수많은 사상자가 발생한다. 당시
건축과 노동에 사용되던 드로이드를 폭동 진압에 사용하게 되는데 이는 매우 효과적이었고 추후 군대의 전투를 목적으로 하는 드로이드들이 출시되기 시작한다. 그렇게 바이러스 감염자와 폭동이 점차 줄어들게 되고 폭동 진압과 전투에 사용되던 드로이드들은 더 이상 필요로 하지 않게 된다.
수년 후 지상이 다시 안전해지자 생존자들은 지상으로 돌아가게 된다. 이전에 사용되던 드로이드들은 다시 건축과 노동에 사용되고 일부 전투용 드로이드들은 국가를 수호하는 목적으로 사용된다.

주인공은 경찰 공무원으로 전투용 드로이드의 통솔과 불량품들을 처리하는 일을 맡고 있었다. 어느 날 한 불량품 드로이드가 드로이드 제어실을 침입하여 중심시스템이 다운된다. 결국 제어에 실패하게 된 드로이드들은 통제권 밖에서 활동하게 된다. 이는 점차 심각해지고 드로이드들의 이상행동으로 세상은 혼란에 빠지게
된다. 주인공은 그 일에 막대한 책임을 짊어지게 되고 이 사태를 막기 위해 통제권 밖의 드로이드들을 처리하러 가게 된다.
